AT THE BEACH

Take 3 for the Sea

While combing the beach for oceanic treasures, or a simple stroll along the coastline, try to pick up at least 3 items of trash to throw away when you leave.

Join a beach clean-up

There are plenty of opportunities to participate in a Delaware Beach Clean-up. If there is none listed while here, grab some friends and start your own!

Avoid Disturbing Beach Habitats

If you come across a portion of the beach that appears to have nesting animals within, do not disturb and report to local agencies.

Leave Natural Materials

Avoid removing shells, rocks, or driftwood while on the beach. These provide habitats for small marine creatures.

Keep distance and leash dogs

As a general rule, keep 100+ yards away for most species and remember to keep your furry friends on a leash.

Follow Local Regulations

Some beaches restrict collecting items to protect their ecosystems. Always check rules before venturing out.

Support Conservation Organizations

There are agencies (such as MERR Institute) that are dedicated to maintaining oceanic health. Consider volunteering to helping one near you.

Avoid Single-Use Plastic

Whether it's bringing your own water bottle or refusing that plastic to-go bag, there are plenty of ways to reduce plastic wherever you live.

Educate Others

The more you learn about the ocean environment, the more amazing it becomes. Learn more and share your knowledge and excitement with others.

This app allows users to report trash found along coastlines and waterways. It’s easy to use, and allows you to accurately enter trash out in the water. Great along any active waterway, not just the ocean.
