Lewes Holiday Parade

A wonderful time was had by all, and we were honored and ecstatic to learn that our float won first prize in the Community category and first prize for “Clowns” for our charming dolphins. None of this would have been possible without the hard work of our volunteers-what a great float team! And special thanks to Mark Thompson who was kind enough to lend us his trailer and opened his barn to let us work on those chilly November days. 

MERR made their inaugural debut in the Lewes Holiday parade this year! Volunteers spent many weeks planning, constructing, and decorating our Under the Sea Sleigh. Eight dolphins and one red nosed sea turtle pulled the sleigh, flying over sparkling blue ocean waves. Our theme was Bubbles not Balloons, to help bring awareness to the detrimental effects of balloons on marine and other wildlife. 

Our magical ocean themed sleigh navigated the parade route with bubbles festively filling the air while our beautiful mermaids waved to the crowds, spreading holiday cheer to all the happy onlookers. Our wonderful volunteers bundled up in dolphin costumes and handed out marine animal tattoos to the children, and proudly carried our banner! It was a magical night filled with bright faces and festive cheer!
